How do you sell women’s sports?

Well, according to a new and growing trend, you put them in their underwear.

We have the Lingerie Football League, which has become a sensation and google-fest in every community it has laid its roots. Now we have the Bikini Basketball League, which recently held public tryouts in Miami, Florida.

It may all sound like a joke, and it may anger the people living on Pepperidge Farm.

But, if you listen to these women talk, then you know it’s not about the short shorts or the tube tops. In fact, for many, it’s not about that at all. It’s about the game, really, and if you have God’s gifts, then why not combine your skill and will with your natural bodacious-ness?

“Billing itself as the league for Sexy Athletics Ladies from around the world, the seven current teams are the Chicago Desire, Orlando LadyCats, Miami Spice, Los Angeles Ice, New York Knockouts, Hollywood Hotties and Atlanta Fleet Angels,” wrote The Huffington Post in early October, when the League was first heavily promoted.

This isn’t the way that every woman aims for empowerment. Of course, not everyone has the same opportunity or the same tunnel to change. Not every woman can become the First Lady, or fight for rights on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Others have to take equality, not wait for it.

What’s that Jack Nicholson line from The Departed?

“No one gives it to you. You have to take it.”

Besides, the BBL isn’t harmful or misleading. That would be shows like The Client List.

And, before you go chanting that the BBL or the LFL isn’t an expression of equality or empowerment, watch the video.

Just, don’t read this article… it doesn’t seem like these photos are done in the right vein.
